In the Skin of a Lion Conflict Essay
English (Advanced)

Full marks. Set in Canada in the 1920’s, Michael Ondaatje’s postmodern novel ‘In the Skin of a Lion’ (1987) continues to captivate modern audiences through its key conflicts. Conflicting perspectives are witnessed through the class struggle fueled by the domination of the authoritative elite over the migrant workers and within the elites themselves, who are equally as diverse as the migrants. The novel also shows how marginalised individuals caught between class and cultural conflicts can suffer inner conflicts and crises of identity. Despite the problematic nature of conflict, Ondaatje reveals how conflict can be productive, paradoxically generating new insights and often driving individual transformation.
