” To what extent does your interpretation of Hamlet support this view In your response, make detailed reference to the play. William Shakespeare’s 17th century revenge tragedy, Hamlet, portrays human experiences to reinforce the significance of loyalty, which is a recurring theme throughout the play. The play explores the issue of betrayal more so than loyalty as the concept of loyalty is lost after the death of Old Hamlet. Through this loss of loyalty, a sense of betrayal is introduced into the state of Denmark replacing any remaining ideals of morals and trust in society. Characters such as Hamlet, Fortinbras, Laertes, and Horatio represent the concept of loyalty in the play, whereas characters such as Gertrude, Claudius, Rosencrantz, and Guildenstern are clear examples of disloyalty in the play.
