Both scenes of Albert Camus’s epic novel “The outsider” depict mild change is Meursault's character but similarities are also present. The constant foreshadowing of events and large use of determinism are heavily displayed in both chapters. Although Meursault lacks control over his surroundings in chapter one this differs to Meursault acknowledgement of setting in chapter 6. Both significantly display the affects nature has on Meursault and his actions. Nature has the ability to determine our actions to some extent. This ideal is present in both scenes of the chapters. Meursault is constantly influenced by the nature particularly the sun. In both scenes it is used in both scenes, ‘the sun blazing down on the shimmering landscape made it inhuman and depressing’, ‘the intense heat beat down on me’.
