Although being a satirical allegory for the Russian Revolution, George Orwell’s ‘Animal Farm’ explores these ideas by allowing the animals to have human qualities and thus human vices are inevitably shown through their actions and decisions. As a visual text, Rob Sitch’s ‘Utopia’ uses the characters as a characterization of authorities in society and criticises their irresponsibility. ‘Animal Farm’ addresses how an individual’s good intentions can be ultimately won over by greed, ambition and personal needs. This leads to an institution that is built on corruption and deception, rather than equality. Orwell uses Napoleon as a representation of the corruption and hypocrisy in human nature as Napoleon seems at first to be a good leader, but is ultimately overcome by greed and becomes power- hungry, using those around him and manipulation of speech ...
