2.1-­Identify the role of enzymes in metabolism, describe their chemical composition and use a simple model to describe their specificity on substrates. • Enzymes are biological inorganic catalysts that reduce the amount of energy needed to start a chemical reaction and thus control the rate of reaction in the body. • A specific enzyme controls every reaction in the body. • Enzymes are proteins made up of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen (CHON) • Metabolism is all the chemical process and reactions happening within a living organism.
