The consulship of Pompey and Crassus in 70 B.C, was only to a certain extent significant due to the fact that it failed to achieve any major short term impacts, rather only causing a political instability that would later cause the susceptibility of the Roman Republic to downfall. The little significance that this consulship had, is majorly seen through their political reforms, that failed to implement any substantial reforms. However, it still held significance in its long-term impact of destabilising the Republic, through the exacerbated tensions between Pompey and Crassus, the overt use of military might to secure political power and the impacted on the next time period, in specific reference to the personality of Caesar. Fundamentally, it is not the intended political reforms that cause the significance of the consulship of Pompey and Crassus, it is rather the instability and the fact that this left the Republic susceptible to downfall.
