The worship of the Egyptian goddess Isis has been part of the thread of the town’s history since very early on, with the Temple of Isis being built before Pompeii was founded as a Roman town. This worship maintained a religious presence in the public and private life of Pompeii until its destruction in 79CE. There are many reliable sources to indicate this due to their discovery in situ and the nature of the destruction of Pompeii. The worship of Isis’ public presence it most illustrated through the established Cult of Isis. The Temple of Isis was the main source of the Cult’s public presence in the Pompeii and this was in part due to its location.
