Discovery of Bronze Age Society on Crete • 1990: Arthur Evans went to Crete in search of seal stones. Local inhabitants suggested he search at Knossos. In less than a year he had discovered a maze like structure which he called a labyrinth • No evidence has been found to support what the people who inhabited this area called themselves. Evans called them the Minoans after the King Minos. However, there is no evidence to suggest he existed either. It is possible the word ‘Minos’ means ruler • Evans fit the evidence around his belief in the legends. However, recent archaeological finds refute many of his theories.
