Domestic photography is an invention that has allowed a style of personal chronology that was previously unavailable to most people in society outside of expensive photography services. Through this medium, the everyday lives of people in society has been made available to descendants in a family interested in their domestic history, for exploration, examination, and evaluation. This possibility is of particular interest to those in the gay and lesbian community, who may be searching for a specific time in their lives where their same-sex attraction first began to “develop” and be actualised. This essay will focus on the effect domestic photography has had traditional gender roles. All photographs can be found in the attached appendix.
