Leukocytes: white blood cells that come from our bone marrow. They are involved in pathogen recognition, phagocytosis, pathogen destruction, inflammation mediation and antigen release. è gets broken down into many forms of white blood cells- neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils, monocytes, lymphocytes è two types of leukocytes mononuclear and granulocytes è granulocytes (polymorphonuclear) : neutrophils, basophils, eosinophils and mast cells- granules contain enzymes that damage or digest pathogens and release inflammatory mediators into the blood stream è mononuclear leukocytes: lymphocytes, monocytes, macrophages and dendritic cells- all are involved in the innate and adaptive immune system
