It can be a precursor to secondary infections that may be chlamydial, bacterial or fungal as a result of immunosuppression caused by the virus (Fukushi et al 2008). Our objective was to determine whether our DNA sample was positive or negative for BFDV by detecting the presence or absence of the protein gene “rep” associated with the virus. Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S.Cerevisae) mutant for VPR1(mVRP1) was examined compared to wild type (WT) cells at room temperature and at 37°C. To confirm VRP1 gene was responsible a rescue experiment was performed, this resulted in cells gaining function of proliferation at 37 degrees. WT and mVRP1 gene was amplified using PCR and an control was ran on agarose gel. Results confirmed that mVRP1 gene was shorter, at around 470 bp and the WT DNA was 850bp.
