The Paleo diet is a diet that focuses on eating whole foods and avoiding processed foods. In his book Cordain (2010, p.23) describes the ground rules of the paleo diet as, eating lean meat, fish and seafood, low glycemic carbohydrates from fruits and vegetables, omitting cereals, legumes, dairy products or processed foods. There are no calorie or carbohydrate counting. It is restrictive because it excludes two whole food groups, (grain and dairy) making it difficult to receive the nutrients needed.
